Making Sketches
As a composer, one of the most important skills you can develop is communication. How you share your music with the world is based on how you communicate with everyone involved in your projects including musicians, engineers, etc. Everyone has different needs. That is why we have to develop your own language of communication that first makes sense to YOU and will be easily adopted by others. We want musicians to react to your writing with the intention you had when you wrote it. Making Sketches creates an opportunity to talk less and play more. In this video, we will talk about the 5 Types of Sketches in Writing.
Motif
Motif is the ‘Why’ of music’s existence, it stands out, catches your ear and creates the memory. The motif pulls you in and connects you with the piece. Expanding one’s music composition is dependent upon the development of the motif. It is one of the most powerful tools of creation. How do you find a motif? You feel it! Inside this 3 part video module, we will present the motif in 3 different stages. Stage 1 is the search. Stage 2 is to create the entire tune from the motif we discovered. Stage 3 is recording the tune into DAW with all the layers of instrumentation.
By creating inversions and rhythmic structure manipulation, we develop our motif through new chord’s progression and harmony structure. You witness the whole process of creation. We build melody movement, chord’s progression, instrumentation and arrangement from the motif of the moment. It’s a fascinating and inspiring process. At the end, we will listen the entire new piece of music based on our MOTIF!
Your Virtual Instruments
Virtual instruments must be integrated as part of our life if we choose to compose music. They are powerful tools that help us to shape our imagination and develop the virtual reality of our music ideas, concepts and creations. Knowing the technical aspect of each is very important and will help us to shape our creation.
Inside this module, we’ll explore the ways to approach each instrument and apply your imagination into the technical capabilities of the instruments such as string’s quartet, acoustic guitar, piano,, acoustic bass etc. We demonstrate ways to expand your motifs between different instruments and learn how to embrace the sound of each example. You’ll gain specific guidance and tips how to turn everything around you into the sound, the sound of true inspiration.
Accidental vs. Royal Composer
Two different ideas. Accidental Composition versus Royal Composition. These are two different experiences. It’s important that we are aware of the two pathways toward creation, as they lead us in two different directions. This module explores the potential benefits and consequences of each. Composing or creating by accident can serve a purpose for your development, but it is difficult to replicate. Composing or creating royally aka on purpose brings intent to your creation and provides a foundation for expansion. We’ll break down how to get into the zone of Royal Composing and share the tools necessary to build your foundational skills.
